Rich gave me the idea of choosing this weeks character (well they are really a team of characters) and once again I am breaking my own rules, 1 week DC and then the next Marvel, since they hail from the Marvel U…hit this jump to see who the heck it is… Read the rest of this entry »

Flash Rebirth #6/Fantastic Four HC

Posted by bnwadmin On February - 20 - 2010

The letter F sponsors this week’s Brave New Worlds Spotlight with the upcoming releases of Flash Rebirth #6 (Finally!) and Fantastic Four by Jonathan Hickman Premiere Hardcover Volume 1 (Fun!).

Barry Allen is back, courtesy of Geoff Johns, and Flash Rebirth #6 marks the end of the saga that returns Allen to the DC Universe.  However, things are going to change for the  family of Flashes (don’t they always) and this week’s issue will reveal those changes including the secrets of the Speed Force and just what is the fate of Wally West.

Meanwhile, another new era has begin for Marvel’s First Family and this week sees the release of the first five issues of Jonathan Hickman and Dale Eaglesham’s run in Fantastic Four by Jonathan Hickman Premiere Hardcover Volume 1.  The story picks up right where Hickman’s Dark Reign Fantastic Four mini-series left off as well as the hanging story thread from Civil War where Reed Richards decides to solve everything.  If you missed out on an issue, or where waiting for the first hardcover of Hickman’s run (collecting Fantastic Four #570-574) to come out, Wednesday is the time to stop by Brave New Worlds to pick up your copy.

Looking for Last-Minute Valentine’s Day Gift?

Posted by bnwadmin On February - 14 - 2010

Just a couple of ideas for the special someone in your life that likes to read …

For the classic love story …

Oni Press’ Love The Way You Love by Jamie Rich and Marc Ellerby

Tristan has two things in his life, a band and a broken heart.  His band is on the verge of making it big, then Tristan sees the “girl of his dream” from stage.  Want to know what happens next, you have to pick up volume one.

Marvel Romance TP

A collection of classic Marvel tales of romance from names like Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Gene Colan, Dick Giordano, John Romita and John Buscema.  Do you really need to know anymore?

For the players …

Oni Press’ Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley

Check out the book before the movie hits theaters.  Scott Pilgrim has two girls in his life and is trying to decide which one to commit to, or is he?  With names like Knives Chau and Ramona Flowers, he should be on his best behavior.

For those who like a twisted tale of love …

Oni Press’ You Have Killed Me by Jamie Rich and Joelle Jones

This one is stylish noir graphic novel.  The back of the book says it all, “he wanted to tell her he loved her, but all he could say was … You Have Killed Me.”  Trust me, this is a good read.  Rich and Jones have teamed up before and are a splendid team.  Her artwork really complements his stories.

A Character(s) To Learn More About

Posted by BRiAN On February - 13 - 2010

Last weekend I was unable to share with you a character that I thought was unique, interesting and relatively forgotten because Mother Nature/Old Man Winter made me stay home by clobbering the Philly Area with snow.  Now I submit for your approval TWO, count ’em TWO, Marvel Comics’ Characters To Learn More About! Brave New Worlds Spotlight

Posted by bnwadmin On February - 13 - 2010

The Spotlight centers on Marvel Comics this week, which provides a double whammy for Brave New Worlds customers with the release of Captain America #603 and the latest Spider-Man premiere hardcover – Gauntlet Book 1 Electro and Sandman, shipping February 17.

Part two of Two Americas continues in Captain America #603 by Ed Brubaker as Cap attempts to answer the old adage from Thomas Jefferson about the tree of liberty needing to be refreshed from time-to-time with the blood of patriots and tyrants.  The answer will reveal who the patriot is, and who is the tyrant.  Captain America from the 1950s also stars.

Electro as the voice of the common man.  Sandman as a misunderstood family man.  No you have not entered a Bizarro World, but rather The Gauntlet.  Yes, that is what is in store for you this week in Spider-Man Gauntlet Book 1: Electro and Sandman hardcover – the beginning of the event that redefines Peter Parker’s classic arch-nemesis, one-by-one, starting with Max Dillon and Eddie Brock.  The Spidey team of writers and artist for Book 1 include Dan Slott, Fred Van Lente, Mark Waid, Barry Kitson and Andy Kubert among others.

Gauntlet Book 1 also includes Dark Reign The List – Amazing Spider-Man and Norman Osborn begins to make his move against everyone’s favorite web head.
