It’s only the second issue and Finch has decided to call in the big guns as Etrigan the Demon’s help is summoned by the Bat because the Penguin is obviously too much for him to handle. I mean, no brainer. However, this could be the first time the old Cobblepot and Etrigan appeared together in the same issue, on purpose. So one might say this is a historic issue.

Another GREAT JUMPING ON POINT by Marvel this week as the next point one is hitting shelves. So if you have not been reading Cap lately, you might not realize Steve Rogers was dead. No worries, he’s back now, but he is no longer Cap as his former sidekick Bucky, who was dead once as well, is now the new Cap. But alas, Bucky is on trial which means there might once again be an opening for another Cap. Hmmmm? I don’t know about you, but I have not been this confused since George Lucas decided to number the Star Wars films in the middle and then releases the first ones after first producing the middle ones.

Cover Girls of the DCU Supergirl Statue

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Superman’s cousin Supergirl and she is being presented in the popular DC statue line – Cover Girls of the DCU. This Adam Hughes designed statue will not be available for long, so do not delay. And while you out picking up the latest statue of the line, make sure to check out Brave New Worlds stock of the previously released statues – Batgirl, Black Canary, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Power Girl.

The war starts in Green Lantern #64 as part one of the War of the Green Lanterns officially kicks off DC Comics summer event. Turns out someone has stolen all the batteries, doesn’t that always suck? Anyway, the Corps and all the other crazy lantern colors are effectively shut down except for a select few – guess who still has some juice left? There are only four of them of course, and one of them is not me. Never professed to be a lantern anyway. So it turns out they are not real happy about this turn of events, hence the start of the war. Part two follows this week in Green Lantern Corps #58.

He’s back, and I am not talking Pinhead. No we are talking about Clive Barker back on the character he created. This is an all-new chapter in the official continuity of the Pinhead story – bet you never thought you would read those words on this website. Anyway, this will prove to be an epic story in what Barker is billing as the final Pinhead tale. Yeah right. Anyway, if you like horror, Barker and disturbing stuff, this book is probably written for you. If you are a fans of hugs and puppies (yes we mean you Lane), you might want to pass.

Justice League of America #55

Both Reign of Doomsday and Rise of Eclipso continue in a book that DC is Drawing the Line @ $2.99. So that is basically two stories for the price of one. What a deal! Do you really need to know anymore than that? If you said yes, you are really greedy aren’t you? But alas, I can’t say no to you, so the Spectre has been taken out by Eclipso and Doomie is wiping out other members of the team. Sounds like an old-fashioned donnybrook.

New Mutants #23

Avengers Academy #11

Wow, there is a lot going on in this issue, including the return of two long-gone characters. Plus, this issue sets up a guest appearance by the actual Avengers in issue 12 next month. Turns out everyone is so excited by the appearances that the party is happening at the Academy, but not in a good Kid-n-Play malt beverage way. More like a World War Hulk destructive way. You have been warned.

GREAT JUMPING ON POINT! This one is a stand alone that takes place during the Young Avengers quest to locate the Scarlet Witch (currently happening in the Avengers Children’s Crusade mini-series. Two of our favorite Young Avengers take on the roles of Captain Marvel and Kang the Conqueror. I think if it were me, I’d like to be Kang. Marvel eventually dies of cancer and besides, Kang can do that time jump thing.

Deadpool Pulp HC

Because it would not be a normal Marvel release week without at least one Deadpool comic or collection. This week actually sees two Deadpool books, we chose to focus on this one (obviously). It’s all the awesomeness you have come to expect from a pulp adventure, plus the Merc with a Mouth, and lies, spies and curves. Collecting Deadpool Pulp #1-4, our hero (?) has been tasked with tracking down a rogue CIA agent who has stolen a nuclear suitcase – and the agent is a girl! Shocking!

Dissidia Final Fantasy Trading Arts Figures

That’s right, the next release of Final Fantasy figures will be arriving this week and include Cecil, Cloud, Firion, Sephiroth and Terra. Don’t delay as these generally move off the shelf rather quickly. Check for them at both Brave New Worlds locations.

Fear Itself Book of the Skull #1

Marvel’s summer event gets kicked started this week as we take a walk down memory lane with the Red Skull. Seems the big guy’s daughter Sin has taken over the family business and is ready to outdo her father’s previous best. This of course leads to a little reminiscing as we learn about the Red Skull’s most-dangerous WWII mission, one that will impact everything we know about today’s Marvel Universe. Don’t you just love those stories that tie yesterday into today?

Generation Hope #5

This is the one I have been waiting for. First, Hope was in a fight for her life as the chosen mutant messiah. Then she went globe trotting finding all of those lights. Now that all the fun has finally settled down, it finally hits her – Cable is dead. With time to think of all that has past and what is to come, Hope makes a decision that will obviously be more important than Lebron James’ last summer. I mean really, Miami or Cleveland just does not have the same impact as the future of all mutant kind, just ask Cyclops.

Hulk 30.1

How much does it suck after all these years of hunting down the Hulk, General Thunderbolt Ross is actually the Red Hulk. Granted, he seems to be settling in very nicely to his new role in the world. Now it’s time to meet his replacement on the military side. Uh-oh, reality hits a little hard now when you see someone sitting in your chair, smoking your cigars, wearing your bath robe, etc. Another Marvel point one issue and another GREAT JUMPING ON POINT.

Izombie TP Volume 1 Dead to the World

Gwen is your average twenty-something generation x-er. She tries to live an eco-friendly life while doing her job. However, of course there is a catch, this is a comic after all. Turns out Gwen must eat a brain each month to keep from losing her own memories because it turns out she is a zombie (bummer). But there is a side effect, she takes on their personality, quirks and all. Until the next brain. Sounds like fun doesn’t it? At least its a new twist on the zombie phenomenon. Collects iZombie #1-5.

Ruse #1

CrossGen fans rejoice, Marvel has brought back some of the characters and universe. Last week we saw the release of Sigil #1 and this week sees Ruse #1. Mark Waid returns to the character he first created as the smartest man in the world (and it’s not Reed Richards or Victor Von Doom) crosses path with a mysterious and enchanting woman (why are they always mysterious and enchanting?). Anyway, obviously fun is about to be had when these two get together – think peanut butter and jelly, Turner and Hooch and Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg.

Uncanny X-Men Annual #3

It’s time for a nice little trip to the Negative Zone which is a lot like taking summer vacation in Cleveland – the laws of nature are literally turned upside down. This week part one of “Escape from the Negative Zone” begins. Escape? But they just got there and I am sure Blastaar and all his buddies have laid out quite the spread. Continues in Steve Rogers Super Soldier and Namor First Mutant. Maybe this won’t be as easy as our intrepid heroes think with the Fantastic Four on the sidelines.

St Paddy’s Day is officially the day after new comics this week and yet I think there are no Irish themed comics out to celebrate. Probably for the better…it is amateur hour after-all.

Annihilators #1

This mini-series reads like a cosmic who’s who of the Marvel Universe – Silver Surfer, Beta Ray Bill, Gladiator, Quasar, Roan and Rocket Raccoon & Groot? Well maybe it’s not exactly an all-star lineup, but a little like the Yankees opening day pitching rotation. Obviously when we get all these characters together in one book it can mean only one thing – the universe as we know it is in peril – Oh No! Rocket Raccon and pals (that’s what we will call them) are here to save the day, so no need to call the Ghostbuster or Justice League.

Batman Streets of Gotham #20

Paul Dini (w) Dustin Nguyen, Derek Fridolfs (a)

If you have not been reading Streets of Gotham, you have been missing a true treat by Dini and Nguyen. This story is all about Hush, Thomas Elliot or should we say the other Bruce Wayne since he surgery to impersonate him. Issue 20 sees “House of Hush” reach its penultimate (love that word) chapter. Hush’s plans are starting to reach their conclusion, which can only mean hugs and puppies for all the Bat Peeps – they know who they are.

I have to admit, I have yet to get on board the bandwagon that is Secret Six, but to a person (or man if we were still in the 1960s), everyone who reads it swears by it. This issue is a great jumping on point as it is part one of a three-part “Darkest House” arc. So, you know how in Monopoly you can get a “get out of jail free” card? Well one of the Six has a “get out of hell free” card, so they decide to resurrect a fallen loved on. I guess we are in store for another zombie story? Still, I think this week is when I jump into the pool.

Star Wars Mace Windu Force FX Lightsaber

Don’t be scared away by this awesome replica lightsaber from the awesome saga from a long, long time ago. If you are a true fan, this is the lightsaber you need – you don’t realize it but I am using my jedi mind powers on you. But I digress, Mace has the best saber as it is the only purple blade in the republic. I don’t know how you we need more of a sales pitch than that?
