American Vampire HC Volume 2

Vampires? Check. Lately it seems the words it seems the very word vampire is enough to scare audiences off (and it has nothing to do with them being undead and wanting all of your blood). Well, both Time magazine and Entertainment Weekly have raved about this “fresh and original” approach to the genre. Heck, even I have waxed on and on about the many virtues that is American Vampire. Volume 2 has finally arrived. Enjoy.

Daken Dark Wolverine #9

GREAT STARTING POINT! The next Marvel point one is here, and Daken is the subject as he continues his bid for power. Next on his list is Los Angeles, the City of Angels. Odds are since someone else has caught wind of his return to the States, people will notice. Just who is coming to settle a score with Daken? Well that would be dear old Dad of course.

When the reply does come, it will change the lives of three regular Joes.  Kirby Genesis features some of Jack Kirby’s concepts and characters including Captain Victory and Silver Star.

Mighty Thor #2

Well if the Silver Surfer is around it can mean only one thing – booze and broads. Well actually that would not be the case. It actually means the big purple guy (and we are not talking Barney the dinosaur or Dino the dinosaur for that matter) is back on the scene. Turns out Galactus has his sight set on the World Tree, mmmm apples. So of course a certain God of Thunder is all that stands between the nine realms and Galactus. This is the stuff of epicness eh.

Brave New Worlds Willow Grove’s next book discussion, volumes 1 and 2 of Wildstorm’s Planetary, will be held on Saturday, May 28 at 7 p.m. The brainchild of Warren Ellis, Planetary is drawn by John Cassaday.

Originally intended as a 24-issue bi-monthly mini-series, Planetary actually took almost eight years and 27 years to finish. It’s about a team of archaeologists that track down super-human activity along with paranormal secrets, histories and much more.

I wanted to do something that actually went deeper into the (superhero) sub-genre, exposed its roots and showed its branches. What if you had a hundred years of super history just slowly leaking out into this young and modern superhero world … Warren Ellis.

Planetary also offers a unique look at popular icons such as Godzilla, Tarzan, Sherlock Holmes and Doc Savage among others.

I love it when a Marvel book comes with a “classified” listing. It basically leaves the plot up to my imagination. I believe it really has something to do with Fear Itself, but when did that stop me from musing about Puck and Sasquatch moving in together like The Odd Couple. Turns out that Sasquatch is a neat freak but Puck, well he likes to throw his trash everywhere. You know you want to see if my prediction is the real one.

Avengers #13

A Fear Itself tie-in, the Avengers once again need to provide the last line of defense against evil as the Earth is threatened by the God of Fear. I wonder if he is related to the First (evil) from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Remember those Turok (spelling has to be wrong on that!) vampires, those buggers were difficult to kill. I mean, I did not kill them, but it looked hard on the tele.

Batgirl The Flood TP

If you have read anything I have written on this website then you know I like when comics bring the fun in. Miller’s Batgirl does just that. Guess who gets in his way?

INDIE SPOTLIGHT Liars Kiss HC

Despite his limitations in that department he scored a pretty sweet job taking photos of this guy’s wife to prove she is not cheating. You can probably guess where this is going. The devil (just for Eric) is of course in the details. Show some of your love for the smaller companies and pick up this release.

It’s not like they are being nice to one another. Since when is killing civil I ask you?  Well!

Dan Clowes Mister Wonderful Love Story TP

Eisner-Award winner Clowes is back with a story that is probably the most heartfelt piece he has ever written, Mister Wonderful Love Story was originally published in serialized form in the New York Times. Marshall is a divorced, middle-aged and unemployed catch, on his first blind date, one which shows up about an hour late. However, when she shows up, Wow! Va-va-voom. Of course this being a story, the date itself should be a story in itself, and it is.

Zombies vs Robots Undercity #1
