New Comics Day and BNW’s on a Wall!
The guys over at Geekadelphia who are on Team Philly for the Ford Fiesta Movement (you may have seen us mention them on here before) decided that Brave New Worlds was “…the favorite comic book shop” for them in the city and then saw fit to put us on a wall (with some real very good company!) The mural is located at 1108 South Street so go check it out! Here’s a video describing it in all of its awesomeness! Thanks for sticking us up there guys!

So if you don’t enjoy a good yarn heavily focused on years of spandex based continuity (and for some reason i never really pictured them in spandex more of sweatpants or something i dunno) then you may also have these 2 books on your to read stack…

X-Men Second Coming/Romulus TP
First this week, wonder twins Craig Kyle and Chris Yost, bring you a story that has been years in the making. No we ain’t talking no Siege, we are talking X-Men: Second Coming. The seeds that were laid in House of M and came to a head in Messiah Complex promises to finish now as Hope comes back to real time, and nothing will ever be the same again (if we had a nickel for every time a book promised this).
This storyline, which begins in X-Men: Second Coming and continues in the coming months in all X-books, promises that many will be wounded and several will die. Not one. Not two. Not a Teen Titan (because they are like killing a ninja now, no one cares). But several will die. Several what? Now you are just going to have read to figure that out.
Plus, there is this whole savior thing going on like Neo or Anakin Skywalker. The question is, which one will Hope be?
Meanwhile over in the world of everyone’s favorite amnesiac, now I remember Canadian Logan, someone who has been hiding and controlling events in Wolverine’s life for over 100 years finally appears and the result is Wolverine Origins: Romulus Tradepaperback by Daniel Way and Scott Eaton. Reprinting Wolverine Origins #37-40.

A Character To Learn More About
Today marks a first in “A Character” history. I have taken my first submission/recommendation for a character, and not had to have done all the tedious/backbreaking/high stress sleuthing into the nether reaches of Marvel and DC’s vast treasure trove of colorful, bizarre and sometimes crappy characters.
What I Liked This Week
It is fitting that the week’s lone selection for What I Liked would be the return of Kitty Pryde to the Marvel Universe. She deserves as much. Matt Fraction’s latest mutated effort does a nice job of bringing back a character who last we saw was stuck to a “magic” bullet crossing the cosmos.
In fact, Fraction manages to ask more questions in this issue than answer them – the answer being just how she returns. The new questions are what is to become of Kitty now that she has returned in the state she appeared (refer to X-Men Mutant Massacre filed under done this before, my only true disappointment with the issue) and why did Magneto do this?
I have always contended that Kitty is the heart of the X-Men and this was on display in this issue as Scott Summers and slowly the rest of the group realized she was coming back to them.
I also liked the part where even though Scott tried to hide the fact from the entire planet, Reed Richards still knew what was up. It’s always nice when the writers reference the larger Marvel Universe the characters exist in. Back in the day, yes I am talking about the 1970s and 1980s, the writers seemed to be more in tuned with his notion. Today, the writers want the characters to live in these little bubbles. But I digress …
Whilce Portacio contributed the pictures and was a definite break from what is becoming the blandness of both Terry Dodson and Greg Land. Is it me, or does everyone look the same?
Enjoy …
Friday Internets Now w/ Scott Pilgrim
It feels like people are enjoying, well maybe just a few of you are, this little list of things that I either find (typing stuff into Google is one of my favorite things to do..that and watch internet videos of people falling) or get sent to me or read on other peoples blogs. So here’s a new list… Read the rest of this entry »
Random Retro Comic Review
Rucka’s run on Elektra was satisfying and perhaps no issue of his time on the book exemplified that more than issue 22, or Part 5 of “Everything Old Is New Again.” Trying out the peace thing, Elektra finds herself torn between her old ways and new (of course) and must make a choice in the ultimate showdown, for her, and some others as well.
I like Carlos Pagulayan’s pencils on the issue and am even inspired to go back and read the run after this issue.
The issue’s big bad is the Three – a trinity of the Hand, Shadow, Thought and Pain. There final showdown with Elektra Natchios does not disappoint.
